- Ethiopian and Gregorian calendar is a free App for Ethiopians, tourists and researchers. It is an offline App that generate and display over 3000 years of Calendar.
- The App doesn’t collect data or share data with any third party application.
- The App doesn’t collect any of your personal information or your location
- The App doesn’t save the generated calendar year to disk or share it to any third party application.
- The App doesn’t require permission, it is free to download from Google or other stores
- The App doesn’t contain any offensive contents or display, any age group can use it, but it doesn’t address children under age of Thirteen.
Users Guide
- The App opens by displaying two buttons “English” and“አማርኛ“. You can click the “English” button to display both the Amharic and Gregorian Calendar mapped together. It allows you to see any date with it equivalent translation in Ethiopian Calendar. Clicking the “አማርኛ” button display the Ethiopian Calendar in Arabic and Ge’eze numerals.
- The App always opens by taking the system date from you mobile or PC to display the current calendar year. All 12 months are displayed at once and you can slied up or down to focus on a particular month of interest. The current day of the month is depicted in red-orange box. You can change the year by clicking on “+” or “–” sign buttons to increment or decrement the year by 1 or you can type any year by overwriting the year in the year box.
- In the English version of the calendar, the Gregorian dates are depicted in white and the Ethiopian calendar dates are depicted in violet and aqua colors. One Gregorian month is traversed by two Ethiopian months and are distinctly identifiable by their colors.
- The Ethiopian New Year begins on Sept. 11 or 12 depending on Ethiopian Leap year and has 13 months. Each month has 30 days except for the 13th month which has 5/6 leap days.
- When you open the App the Local time you see is Addis Ababa time but it is not dynamic. The time counter change when one of the buttons is pressed or refreshed.
- Ethiopians count time quite differently from the Western standard. In the West the day begins after midnight and is counted as 1am, 2am… etc but according to the Ethiopian tradition the day begins after 6am. That is, 7am–> 1 Tewat(am), 8am –> 2Tewat(am), 7pm–> 1 Mishet(pm)..etc. The only change is in the hour, the minutes and seconds are the same. The hour handle pointer is reversed by 180 degree. For example: 5:30am–>11:30(ketiwatu), 2:45pm–>8:45(kekayenu/kesiehat)
- Date conversion from Gregorian to Ethiopian Calendar is straight forward. Navigate to the month and the day of your choice on the existing display, Gregorian dates are displayed in white. The corresponding day and month in Aqua or Violet color is the Ethiopian equivalent date. The Ethiopian months and year are displayed on the second row.
- From Ethiopian to Gregorian Calendar conversion you must add 7 to the Ethiopian year If the Ethiopian date is between Maskarem 1st (sept. 11/12) and Tahisas 22/23 (Dec. 31) else you add 8 years. For this App, however, always add 8 years to your Ethiopian year and type it in the year box( the year box is always in Gregorian); The Ethiopian year is displayed on the second row, adjust the year by simply clicking the “-“or”+” buttons. The corresponding day, month and year in white is the equivalent Gregorian date. for Example:- Ginbot 7, 2001ET (7/9/2001) –> May 15,2009(15/5/2009)G.C
- You can also navigate to the year of your choice by clicking “-” or “+” buttons until you see the corresponding Ethiopian year on the 2nd row.
